Royal Caribbean International has long been a leader in the contemporary  cruise line category and also well known for innovation.  Back in l988, when Royal Caribbean introduced its Sovereign of the Seas, she was the first ship to offer a multi-level lobby. Then came other innovations and features, such as dome-covered pool areas, in addition to the regular outdoor pools, as well as multi- level dining rooms with its “Vision” class ships.

Over the years Royal Caribbean International  has continued  to build new ships, each marked with new features.  Their “Voyager” class ships  offered new  industry firsts and  innovative touches like ice skating rinks, rock climbing walls, miniature golf, atrium view staterooms, and Mardi Gras-type parades. A variation is the “Radiance” class, which includes some of the trademark features found on earlier built ships, but also with more elegant touches including extensive glass throughout, and specialty restaurants also featured.

When Royal Caribbean International launched its first “Freedom” class ships with Freedom of the Seas in June 2006, it had more alternatives for dining onboard as well as  even more innovative features, including its FlowRider and the H2O Zone, a water park, complete with  ground geyser, a cascading waterfall and interactive sculpture fountains.

Their “Oasis” class ships (Oasis of the Seas in 2009 and Allure of the Seas in 2010) have now brought Royal Caribbean International to new levels. These are the largest ships built, coming in at 220,000 tons, and featuring more industry firsts -  seven different  neighborhoods onboard, including Central Park, which features garden paths and real trees, as well as the outdoor boardwalk Aqua Theatre and Entertainment Place.  Their next generation of  ships announced as “Project Sunshine” will include a one being launched in 2014 – coming in at 158,000  tons and carrying 4,100 guests,  this ship will bring new features and designs as well as proven favorites, something  that Royal Caribbean International is well known for.

Royal Caribbean International’s ships offer multiple dining options, including “My Time Dining” offered in the main dining room between 6pm – 9pm as well as  reservations-required specialty restaurants. There are also numerous casual dining are also available.  Currently Royal Caribbean International’s fleet includes 22 ships with itineraries from three to 14 nights.  Destinations include Caribbean, Europe,  Alaska, Bermuda, Hawaii, Mexico, Panama Canal, Asia, Australia,  New Zealand, Dubai, South America, and Canada.
